Biogas in the Amazon: energy for powering the bioeconomy – Executive Summary
A study carried out by Instituto Escolhas in partnership with CIBiogás, presents the potential for generating biogas from solid urban waste and fish farming in four states in the Amazon: Amapá, Amazonas, Rondônia and Roraima. The document points out that biogas would have the potential to generate enough electricity to serve 107,000 homes and benefit 429,000 people, placing itself as an alternative to the region’s energy bottlenecks, in addition to boosting the forest economy.
